On this year’s National Rural Health Day, Curative honors all the dedicated providers and healthcare organizations driving change and going the extra mile for rural health. As anchors for their communities, rural hospitals and their providers play a central role in addressing the social determinants of health and improving the lives of those who call rural their home.
Rural communities are wonderful places to live and work, which is why over 60 million people – nearly one in five Americans – call them home. These small towns, farming communities and frontier areas are places where neighbors know each other, listen to each other, respect each other and work together to benefit the greater good.
These rural communities also have unique healthcare needs. Today more than ever, rural communities must address accessibility issues, a lack of healthcare providers, the needs of an aging population suffering from a greater number of chronic conditions, and larger percentages of un- and underinsured citizens. And rural hospitals – which are often the economic foundation of their communities in addition to being the primary providers of care – struggle daily as declining reimbursement rates and disproportionate funding levels make it challenging to serve their residents.
Today is a reminder that while great strides have been made in building rural health equity, there is more work to be done. With this in mind, Curative is proud to announce the Critical Access Task Force – a cohort of mission-minded physicians passionate about serving underserved communities who can properly address coverage gaps. These physicians are 100% Board Certified, have clean backgrounds, and are available to work now.
